How could the German people under Hitler tolerate a government-sponsored genocide that murdered over 10 million souls? How could so many citizens claim ignorance when the smoke of burning bodies drifted over towns, when trains rolled past villages packed with human cargo bound for extermination?
Historians have debated the scope of public awareness, but a disturbing reality remains: many Germans chose not to know. They looked the other way—motivated by fear, pride, propaganda, or, perhaps most insidiously, economic comfort. When the regime filled their stomachs and restored their national pride, they closed their eyes to the slaughter next door.
Modern Americans should ask: are we repeating this moral failure?
Over 63 million unborn children have been killed since Roe v. Wade (1973). Abortion is our national holocaust, and just like 1930s Germany, many Americans claim ignorance—or more accurately, willfully suppress the truth. We look the other way, our consciences dulled by materialism, political loyalty, or fear of the woke mob.
One day, we will stand before God. Will He ask us what we did while His image-bearers were dismembered in sterile rooms, their remains discarded like trash? Will we, like postwar Germans, offer excuses?
A Culture Willfully Blind
Why do so many Christians refuse to confront the evil of abortion?
Some hide behind economic justifications. Others fear social alienation. Many simply don’t want to disturb their comfortable lives with an inconvenient truth. But whatever the motivation, the result is the same: silence, complicity, and moral compromise.
Scripture speaks powerfully to this kind of cowardice:
“Rescue those who are being taken away to death; hold back those who are stumbling to the slaughter. If you say, ‘Behold, we did not know this,’ does not he who weighs the heart perceive it?” (Proverbs 24:11–12)
We cannot plead ignorance. Abortion is not hidden. It is publicly defended, proudly advertised, and politically funded. We know.
And yet, like the Germans who heard rumors of mass graves and pretended not to notice, many Christians won’t speak out, won’t vote accordingly, won’t even pray.
Materialism: The Lie That Comfort Is King
One of the driving forces behind this moral numbness is materialism. When economic comfort becomes the highest goal, moral concerns get pushed aside. This is especially evident among those who deny the humanity of the unborn.
Materialist philosophy, which dominates modern academia and policy-making, denies intrinsic human worth apart from physical development. In this view, personhood is not an innate quality granted by God but a sliding scale based on arbitrary developmental benchmarks—viability, brain function, self-awareness.
This allows the unborn to be labeled “non-persons,” thus paving the way for their destruction. But this is not science. It is ideology. Biologically, the unborn are living human beings from the moment of conception, with distinct DNA, measurable growth, and innate dignity. Scripture affirms this reality:
“Before I formed you in the womb I knew you” (Jeremiah 1:5).
“For you formed my inward parts; you knitted me together in my mother’s womb” (Psalm 139:13).
To deny this is not only anti-biblical but anti-science.
Materialists also justify abortion for economic reasons. Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen argued in 2022 that abortion access is vital for economic stability. Translation: motherhood disrupts labor markets.
This cold utilitarianism echoes the reasoning of ancient pagan societies that practiced child sacrifice to secure harvests or military victories. Today’s idol is not Baal, but economic productivity. We sacrifice children for quarterly earnings and GDP growth.
Fear of the Mob: Woke Rage and Cancel Culture
Another reason Christians remain silent is fear. The modern left has cultivated a militant culture that punishes dissenters. From social media mobs to workplace cancelations to real-world violence, the “woke” mob does not tolerate opposition.
Antifa and radical pro-abortion activists frequently serve as “deathscorts,” guiding women into abortion clinics while verbally or physically harassing peaceful protestors. Pro-life organizations have been firebombed. Judges and legislators who oppose abortion have received threats.
This is not merely political disagreement—it is demonic rage. Ephesians 6:12 reminds us:
“We do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against… spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly places.”
Satan has always hated the image of God. He has always sought to destroy children—whether through Pharaoh, Herod, or Planned Parenthood. And his minions today wear black masks and rainbow flags.
Partisan Loyalties: Appalachian Christians and the Democrat Party
Some Christians, particularly in historically Democrat regions like Appalachia, remain loyal to a party that long ago abandoned biblical values. The Democrat party once styled itself as the party of the working class. Today, it is the party of abortion on demand, radical gender ideology, and the indoctrination of schoolchildren into godless ideologies.
Older Appalachian Christians sometimes vote Democrat out of habit or cultural loyalty, believing they are standing for the poor. But at what cost?
The Democrat platform supports abortion through all nine months, publicly funds Planned Parenthood, and seeks to impose gender ideology in schools. Is that a trade worth making? A government handout in exchange for complicity in moral evil?
Besides, these handouts come at a steep price. The U.S. national debt now exceeds $34 trillion—roughly $100,000 per citizen and $250,000 per taxpayer (see usdebtclock.org). And for every dollar given to the poor, nine are funneled through bloated bureaucracies and wasted on pet projects and partisan causes.
Christians must ask: does our faith shape our vote? Or do our political loyalties override God’s Word?
Biblical Faith Requires Political Courage
To those who say faith should be private, that Christians must remain silent in the public square, I ask: why should Christians be gagged while secularists speak freely?
Secular legal arguments for abortion rest on unprovable philosophical assumptions—namely, that the unborn are not persons and that a woman’s bodily autonomy outweighs a child’s right to life.
These are religious assumptions, rooted in a materialist and relativistic worldview. They are not neutral. They are not scientific. They are expressions of belief—just as surely as Christian pro-life arguments are.
So why is only one side permitted to speak?
The founders of America did not intend for Christians to check their faith at the door. “Separation of church and state” meant the government could not establish a national denomination, not that believers must stay silent in politics. As John Adams wrote:
“Our Constitution was made only for a moral and religious People. It is wholly inadequate to the government of any other.”
Christians who hold public office—or any position of influence—should unapologetically apply biblical principles to their decisions. To do otherwise is to betray both their faith and their fellow citizens.
Restoring a Culture of Life: What Can Be Done?
- Pray Without Ceasing
Prayer is the first act of war in the spiritual battle. Prayer humbles us, aligns us with God’s will, and unleashes divine power. Pray for the unborn. Pray for their mothers. Pray for the church to awaken. Pray for the end of abortion. - Speak the Truth Boldly
Don’t be silent. Speak up in conversations, online forums, church settings, and classrooms. Share truthful resources. Show the humanity of the unborn and expose the cruelty of abortion procedures. - Support Life-Affirming Ministries
Crisis pregnancy centers, adoption agencies, and sidewalk counseling efforts need support. These organizations serve frightened mothers, provide alternatives to abortion, and bear witness to the gospel. - Vote Biblically
Faith must shape our votes. If a candidate openly supports the slaughter of the innocent, no other policy position justifies our support. Evil must not be rationalized for economic gain or cultural comfort. - Challenge Fellow Believers
Call out compromise in the church. Too many pulpits are silent. Too many churchgoers are indifferent. Encourage your pastor to preach on abortion. Speak truth to your family and friends.
Conclusion: Will We Wake Up?
Dietrich Bonhoeffer, the German pastor executed for opposing Hitler, once wrote:
“Silence in the face of evil is itself evil: God will not hold us guiltless. Not to speak is to speak. Not to act is to act.”
Christian reader: this is not a time for silence. The blood of the innocent cries out. God sees. God hears. And God calls His people to stand.
Do not turn a blind eye to the abortion holocaust. Refuse the comfort of complicity. Speak, vote, act—and pray that our nation repents before it’s too late.

This blog post is an expanded version of a letter to the editor that I wrote for the local newspaper. Below is the PDF of the letter to the editor. The editor, Steve Garbacz, wrote an article alongside about compelled fatherhood as an homage to me, I suppose (he is an unabashed leftist). Fatherhood and motherhood started at the moment of conception. The question is whether the father is man enough to shoulder his responsibility to raise his child, and whether the mother will be likewise responsible.
