Levitical priesthood: The religious order associated with the tribe of Levi, which was set apart for service connected with the tabernacle and temple. Strictly speaking, every Aaronic priest was a Levite, but not every Levite was a priest; other Levites performed supporting duties rather than offering priestly sacrifices.
