Shadow: In biblical typology, a shadow is an incomplete and temporary Old Testament representation of a greater spiritual reality fulfilled in Christ and the new covenant. Sacrifices, ceremonial laws, festivals, the priesthood, and the tabernacle were shadows that outlined what was to come, while Christ is their substance and reality (Colossians 2:16–17; Hebrews 8:5; 10:1).
